The RE/MAX Balloon Program, How & Why

At over 100 balloons world wide, the RE/MAX hot air balloon is one of the most recognized corporate icons in the world. Even though the hot air balloon is our primary logo, many owners and agents still have very little knowledge of how this became to be or what the balloon can do for them. It all began in 1978 when RE/MAX was just five years old. RE/MAX executives were searching for a unique way to enhance recognition of the RE/MAX name above competitors in a national marketing campaign. That same year, several agents and owners in an attempt to promote their own region, sponsored a Red over White over Blue hot air balloon during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and placed a large RE/MAX banner on the center of the balloon. During the festival, and back in Denver at the International Office, the balloon was seen for several minutes on the national television show “Good Morning America”. It was at that moment when the birth of the RE/MAX balloon program began.

But why balloons? Hot-air balloonsare a friendly medium that brings smiles to the faces of all who see them. Furthermore, impressions are made without the appearance of covert commercialism. As such, the relative quality of impressions generated by the hot air balloon is very high. The hot air balloon creates excitement that attracts and holds attention. Hot-air balloons are universally fascinating, regardless of the spectator's age, income, gender, or occupation. Balloons are spectacular to watch, colorful, alive, and appeal to the romantic adventurer in all of us. As such, they are not limited to select demographic profiles, but rather, appeal to virtually all ranges of individuals. Besides the obvious primary recognition RE/MAX receives from the appearance of the balloon, the secondary exposure is just as great. Each and every time the balloon makes an appearance people are stopping to take pictures. These pictures are then shown to others and talked about for years to come. While attending festivals, it is not uncommon for a picture of the RE/MAX balloon to end up in the local paper,even on the front page! Now that’s advertising you can’t buy! Flights are also conducted with representatives from the local media and shown on T.V. or talked about on radio.

So what can the balloon do for you?

Priority Balloons LLC operates four hot air balloons on behalf of RE/MAX Central Inc across the skies of Nebraska and Iowa. For a minimal fee, the balloons are available to RE/MAX owners and agents in the region to attend their events such as regional/local festivals, concerts, grand openings, parades, and sporting events. The balloon is also available to assist you in any media partnerships you may have by flying media and VIP’s across your community. Other uses of how the hot air balloon can assist in your promotions is only limited to your imagination.

The RE/MAX Hot-Air Balloon is available on a reserve-basis to visit your town, bringing smiles and cheers to your friends, neighbors, and customers. Please Note: Balloon appearances should generally be scheduled for morning or evening hours, when winds are calm, in a large, open space (200′ X 200′) free of overhead obstacles and power lines.
